Cannot open .pps files in Mac Mail

Version: v.X
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Power PC

I used to be able to double click attached .pps files in Mac Mail to open them. Now it seems the only way I can open them is to download them on to my desktop, launch PowerPoint, select the file, and manually open them.
Big pain since I get a lot of .pps files I need to read! What's up with this?

Since you don't mention what *does* happen when you dbl-clk the attachment
it's hard to say. It's possible that repairing disk permissions may resolve
it. You might also select one of the .pps icons, Command+I (Get Info) and
make sure that the file type is associated with the program.
