cannot open specific word

when i tried to open a file created in word 97, i cannot
open it and said: "valid .doc extension" and something
like that. i have tried other ways expressed in the
dialog box. but all failed. it looks like file crush.
anybody has any idea to solve this problem and to be able
to open that file. it is a very important one for me.

Since you mention Word 97, it sounds like you are using a newer version, so
try this: within the Word application, select File-Open. Then be sure the
drop-down box is set to open "All files." Proceed to find the Word 97
document and open it this way.

If that doesn't work, try opening it in Wordpad. You can then copy the text
to a new Word document and save it.
