cannot open word docs by just clicking..

Hi
The scenario: if I click on a word Document to open it from it's stored
folder etc, it opens Word, but no file appears (no error messages either).
This happens with all word files. (.doc)
If I then go to File, Open and go to the stored document, it will open as
normal.

Can anyone help please as this a Office Machine and is giving the Secretary
a severe headache!

Hi
I eventually tried the information received, thanks.
However, I could not add the /r to the Word exe short cut as the target was
greyed out.
After re-installing Word over the top, the problem went way.
Many thanks for your help and advise.

Go to Start | Run and type

winword /r

Then press Enter.
