Cannot open word docs from finder

I'm using Word X (SR1) and I cannot open files by double-clicking their
icons in the Finder. They open fine from the 'file-open' menu within the
application.

Anyone got any ideas?

in the Finder, select a Word document and choose File/Get Info. In
the Open with pane, choose Word from the application dropdown.
Check the Change All button.

I did that, but no difference. Double clicking the document icon launches
Word, but the document itself does not open.

Tried repairing permissions too....

Do you by any chance have Document_Open() or Automacros running in
either your Normal template or an add-in?

Hi Beth

Thanks for the reply. It happens primarily on documents received from
windows users, but not all the time (don't you just love problems like
that....). I have tried to isolate a common factor, but to no avail yet.

Hi Peter,

You said "primarily" on docs from Windows users. Does it *ever* happen on
docs that you create yourself on your Mac or, for that matter, any docs that
were created on any Mac? If not, then there's got to be something about
those WinWord docs. They are Word docs, right? Were they created by
especially old versions of WinWord perhaps?

The next time you get one, send it to me as an attachment. Let me see if I
have any trouble with it. I'm in Word 2001, but at least we should be able
to determine if it's the document or something to do with your
system/installation.

By the way, did you see J.E. McGimpsey's response to your last post? He
said: "Do you by any chance have Document_Open() or Automacros running in
