Cannot open Word Documents

I am running Windows NT 4.0 Workstation with MS Office
2000. I've found that ever since I installed the patch for
the latest popular virus, I have been unable to open *any*
Word document. I have tried repairing, uninstalling and
reinststalling MS Office to no avail. NO other application
in MS Office appears to have been affected by whatever is
going on.

I'm at a loss here.

Hi Frank,

If Norton was ever installed at any time then it could still be the
problem. For example your computer may have come with an OEM version
of Norton.

I've found that uninstalling Norton doesn't unregister the DLL for the
"Office Plug-in".

Search for : officeav.dll

If you find it then go to Start/Run and run the following command:

regsvr32 /u "<path>\officeav.dll"

not include information on Norton CE but it will contain additional
details on the unregister command if you need them:
