Cannot open works files in word . . . WKLS31.DLL?

I'm attempting to open Works 8.0 files in Word 2003 (I've tried several
different files). Each time the a popup message appears, followed by the
popup of death (Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close,
etc.)

The initial popup contains this:

Error
The specified module could not be found
WKLS31.DLL

Has anyone encountered this problem before? Any ideas on what is going on?
