cannot paste on 2002 startup

I know I fixed this once, but cannot find the fix now. The problem is
that anything copied to the windows clipboard cannot be pasted into
Word 2002 if Word starts after the copy. I must first start Word
2002, then go do the copy outside of Word and then I can paste it in.
The "fix" might be an option that got reset.

Answering my own message ---
I found the fix; disregard my original query.

The fix was to remove a MS Works plug-in for Word that got reinstalled
during an upgrade of Works.
