cannot play sound in powerpoint 2003

i have had this problem for ages, tried getting help from microsoft but thats
just stopped suddenly!
i have created several pps on my pc and on all of them i have been unable to
play a sound. i can insert one but when i click on it to play, it wont. the
files are mp3's and play alone on the pc.
i have uninstalled and reinstalled powerpoint and office, i have tried
detect and repair, but still no joy. please help me!! its been 3 years!

Hello, the problem here is that sounds inserted into PPT are linked unless you change a Preference. In Mac PPT, before you insert the sounds, you need to go to Preferences and under "Link sounds with file size greater than" choose a large value. This will ensure that the inserted sounds are embedded rather than linked in the file. This will enlarge the file size, but they will be embedded.

You will need to do the same thing when you create the file in WinPPT. There are Option under the Sounds tab. In WinPPT, search Help for "Linking and embedding sound files."

I'd visit http://www.playsforcertain.com and read through the Media Tutorials
there. There are LOTS of reasons why sounds might not play, and this is bar
none the best source of info about it.
