Cannot print any Word or Office docs after upgrading to OS X 10.4.9

After upgrading my Mac to OS X 10.4.9, Microsoft Office X will not
print any docs. I can print from other programs, Pages, FireFox,
Etc., without a problem.
I get the following error message:
"WORD cannot print due to a problem with the current printer. Make
sure you have a printer selected in the Print Center. You may need to
print again or adjust your printer settings

I've tried to print/Preview to PDF, and I get the same error.

Some detials on my setup.
iMac Core Duo, 1.5 GB RAM 100GB free space.
Office X
HP 3600n LaserJet

Here is what I have already tried.
Repaired permissions
Re-optimized system with Onyx-x
Ran maintenance scripts
Deleted various .plist files (Office, Word, Printer)
Removed & re-added printer form print center.
Updated printer drivers
Re-installed original printer drivers from OSX disk
Removed and reinstalled OfficeX
Updated OfficeX to 10.1.9

None of this has worked, I am at the end of my rope.
Any ideas?

Well, it sounds like you've thrown the whole toolbox at the problem, but I'm
still gonna refer you here:

http://word.mvps.org/Mac/CantPrint.html

And keep in mind it isn't just a matter of what you do, it can be just as
important that you do them in the appropriate order.

Despite what they say in the forums, this seems to be a pretty common
problem. Here's what worked for me:
- Completely uninstall Office -- use the Uninstall tool on the CD if
available
- Perform an Archive and Install using your Mac OS restore discs, to
re-build your OS (I had to go back down to 10.4.6)
- When you get back in (don't worry, nothing will be lost if you check
the box for "Archive and Install" and make sure you preserve your user
settings), run Software Update repeatedly until there are no more
updates available
- Re-install MS Office

Don't bother running the Office updates, they take forever and do
nothing. The best thing to do is just to re-install the OS. It's
mercifully quick, and for the most part everything just works when you
get back in.

Don't bother pursuing help in these forums. They just send you to some
crappy webpage with troubleshooting steps any 2 year old would have
tried first. Obviously Microsoft and Apple need to do some QC together
when a major OS update comes out...

Don't understand all the problems with X.4.9. I updated X.4.9 and
haven't had any problems with Offoce2004. This of course was on a
PowerBook 17" 1.67Gb with 2 GB system RAM.

If it's "fixed", don't "break it"!

Jonathan:

Your suggestion is the same as the "Buy a PC and all your troubles with Mac
Office will go away" suggestion. Stupid.

I guess there's no gentle way to say that when an incompetent user so
totally wrecks their computer that they have to re-install an Apple
operating system, then they are unlikely to have sufficient computing
ability to succeed with TextEdit.

However: "Advising" other users to run unpatched software by neglecting to
re-apply the service packs is an act of malicious mischeif. Jonathan, other
users do not WANT their computers to get into the mess that you got yours
into. Other users use their computers for important work with sensitive
data: they do not want to expose their bank account details to the same
security risks as your computer is open to.

It will be evident to most users that you have done some very stupid things
and that your troubleshooting approach is somewhat immature.

Fo those who may have missed the point: "Jonathan totally wrecked his
computer. If you do what he recommends, yours won't work either."
