Cannot print with Word 2008

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

Word does not print any of my documents whether "old"(i.e. pre/Word2008) or newly made, whether text or graphics.

I can see them all perfectly well in the Word window and also in the Navigator-Thumbnails, but not in File>Print Preview.

They also do not appear in the File>Print Dialog, which means they do not print as PDFs either.

(If it is a file with only text I may see isolated text fragments (5-6 letters long) distributed randomly on the page in the File>PrintPreview window.)

The documents save and open without problems and they show exctly the work I did - I just cannot convince Word to print anything.

The problem occurs only in Word, not in Excel or Powerpoint. No, I have not yet tried exporting the word docxs to Powerpoint and printing them there, but I am sure there is a better solution to this fairly basic requirement. Nothing fancy - I would just like to print what I wrote and drew.

I have a deadline to keep... please respond quickly

To all who might have similar problems:

The Service Packs Office 2008-1210 and 1211 solved this problem , even if they do not mention it in the description.

I beg to differ - I have a similar problem. I can see them in print-preview, and the view-print layout, but not in the 'quick preview' once ready to print, nor do they print, in spite of installing the service packs.

I'll also add that when I went to use a PC w/Windows XP and Word 2003, i was able to print my document w/the graphics & layers without a problem. Word for Mac is falling down here.

In your Mac version of Word check to make sure that in Word>Preferences>
Print there is a check in the box for Drawing Objects and that there is also
a check in the box for Print Background Colors & Images.

If that isn't the problem (and I suspect not since the graphics show in
Print Preview) repair disk permissions, which should make a difference if
your printer driver is current.

Most likely, however, you need an updated printer driver for the printer
you're using on the Mac.

Word doesn't (nor does any app) do the printing. It simply calls for the
printing service to be performed & hands the data off to the OS which passes
it on to the printer. The fact that Print Preview displays the graphics
indicates that Word is doing it's job but evidently someone along the way is
dropping the ball:)

Darn. I hoped that second checkbox would the the last missing piece in
my print-from-Word puzzle. But it's not. I still can't print from Word
to my network printer.

Are you the same individual as <[email protected]>?

If you *are*, did you follow the other suggestions? What were the
results?... And please use a consistent identity so we know who we're
dealing with. If it's necessary to use different user addresses at least add
the same signature to your messages.

If you *aren't* that individual, please post a NEW message giving all
particulars about the OS version, Word version - and identify yourself so we
can be at least somewhat certain who is responding about what. Hijacking
threads with "me too" messages doesn't provide the information needed and
confuses the thread, preventing you form getting the appropriate responses.
