Greetings!
I need somebody assistance with the following problem.
PROBLEM
Project 2002 Server stopped publishing new tasks to the
Project Server within existing and published projects.
One of the projects I was not able to publish at all. I
will call it project B.
More troubling symptoms followed. I list the symptoms
below.
Let's go right to the beginning.
BACKGROUND
I have a Project 20002 and a Project Server 2002.
No database (MS SQL or Oracle) is being used except for
the Native MSDE.
HOW THE PROBLEM STARTED
My original task was to publish a Master project into the
Project Server 2002.
I inserted 2 subprojects into the Master project. Let's
call those projects A and B.
I tried publishing this Master Project and got a message
to the effect that I cannot publish a master project and I
should contact the admin.
SOLUTION A
Being a beginning Admin myself I found that I should have
checked the Allow master projects in Microsoft Project
Server checkbox in Manage Enterprise Features.
Additionally, I checked the Allow master projects to be
published to Microsoft Project Server in Manage
organization.
These changes allowed me to publish my master project to
the Project Server 2002.
So I was able to view the item in the Project Center.
To my surprise the inserted projects A and B did show up
just as higher level bolded outline items and now tasks
were posted.
A NOTE
Before I found the solution A. I made myself a member of
the Portfolio Managers group. Also I assigned
Administrative template permissions to the available
categories associated with my Project Managers account.
These categories were My Projects, My Resources, and My
tasks.
I was hoping that this would allow me to publish a Master
Project before I found Solution A.
After I found Solution A, I did NOT reverse the changes
that I made to my account.
PROBLEMS START
Projects A and B that later on became subprojects for the
Master Project were originally sharer projects sharing a
common resource pool.
So next thing I did was adding a task to project A on the
Project 2002 side and save it. The task and to who it was
assigned and other task related info was updated in the
project A and the resource pool file which I will call
project P.
Next thing I did I published project A to the project
server. I selected to publish New and Changed
Assignments. I saw the project Spooler flashing when I
published the New and Changed.
Next I go into PWA as a project manager and find that NO
new tasks have been posted.
I try again.nothing.
I clean up the project server database and publish the
entire project A. It does not show up.
I publish project B that shares the same common pool of
resources and gets published OK.
I go to clean up the project server database and find
there project A., the one that never got published.
published, however, it can be deleted. Strange!
Next, I add a task to project B and try publishing and it
DOES not show up in PWA.
I deleted Project B and republish it with the new task.
This time the task shows up.
However, attempts to publish new tasks again fail.
Meanwhile the team members are getting email notifications
about the newly assigned and changed tasks. Strange!
I restarted the entire Win2K server which houses Project
Server 2002, go through the same motions.. no progress.
Please let me know what you think.
I would greatly appreciate your assistance.
Thank you,
Ruben
