Cannot Publish to Web 2

Back again with still another issue. I still have my web site on the
Netfirms test site before publishing it to our permanent host. I have saved
many versions of the new web pages over the past couple of weeks, but now I
am getting the message some folks are all familiar with: "Publisher cannot
save to the web. Check your URL or network connection." I have checked my
revised pages for items in scratch or hangers and can find nothing. No
radical changes, no changes in settings since the last time I saved
successfully. I am about to surrender to the idea that I've got to go back
to Pub 2000 or forward to FrontPage. help.

You probably have looked at this page:
How to trouble-shoot Publisher web upload issues :
http://msmvps.com/blogs/dbartosik/articles/category/1921.aspx

My guess is that you have exceeded the disk space on your host test account
with all the testing and uploading. I would try deleting all the Publisher
HTML files and folders on your test host account, and then republishing.

If you change...go FrontPage. I suspect you will find just another set of
frustrations with Pub 2000.

Thanks, David. I ran design checker one more time and fixed one or two pages
and the save went fine. I am done with the test period now, but I'm
concerned about using our present host, Earthlink. I've talked to others who
don't like ISP-operated hosts since it is a peripheral business. Am told
their techs are not up to speed and there are other problems. My brief emails
with their techs have been strange to say the least. I've thought about
using Microsoft as a host. Do you have any recommendations?

CWhit,

Good to hear that you debugged it. If having a peripheral business is an
issue, then MS would not be on top of my list of hosts. ;-) Earthlink
generally gets good marks when it comes to service as an ISP, so I would
guess that it would be ok. Never the less, whatever host you choose, just
make sure it has FPSE or you won't be able to get your forms to work.

Personally I was overwhelmed when I tried to research hosts a year or so ago
when I moved my site. I ended up going with http://www.webhost4life.com/
because of David Bartosik's recommendation. I have been satisfied with the
service, and love the price. The name put me off a bit, but it offers
everything I wanted...or could possibly want in the future. I do use
GoDaddy.com to register my domain names, but didn't like their webhosting
services as well. I do buy into the argument to keep my domain registration
separate of my hosting service, just in case something goes wrong with the
hosting service. I also use different services for my dial-up connection and
my broadband connection, which is contrary to the movement these days toward
consolidating services. I just don't like having all my eggs in one
basket...(analogy acceptable given the time of year ;-)
