Cannot Publish Web Site Externally (Outside of LAN)

V

V

I'm currently running IIS 6.0 on a Windows 2003 SBS box with FrontPage Server
Extensions configured and running. When I set up FrontPage 2003 internally
(within the LAN), the user is able to connect and publish just fine to the
server. However, when I set up FrontPage outside of the LAN (at home) to
publish to the web server, the following error message appears:

Server error: The web server at "....." does not appear to have Windows
SharePoint Services installed.
Possible causes:
1. The web server may not have the FP extensions installed.
2. The web server may be temporarily out of service.
3. If you are connecting through a proxy server, the proxy settings may be
incorrect.
4. An error may have occured in the web server.

I comfirmed the FrontPage Extensions today and even recalculated the entire
web site, and still, I get the same issue: works internally, not externally.

I've double checked all the ports on my router; port 80 and 443 are both open.

I would greatly appreciate some assistance.

Is your firewall set to allow FrontPage port 80 access??

If the site is accessible via your browser from your home machine, I
would suspect an extensions issue on the server.

The site is accessible via my web browser; further, if I go to the
_vti_inf.html file on my web site, it comes up with "FrontPage Configuration
Information."

So, do you suggest a reinstall of the FP Extensions from Microsoft?

Is the web accessible on port 80 (http) to anyone on the Internet or are you
accessing it through Remote Web Workplace? Also is your SBS using ISA
2000/2004?

Can you open if from your PC in FP using
File Open Site end entering the URL as http://www.yoursitename.com/
or from IE in FP using File Edit w/ FP

Yes, it is accessible on port 80 to anyone on the Internet (I am not
accessing it through any type of remote access/VPN).

I'm not in front of the SBS right now, but I believe it is running ISA 2000.

When I try to Open Site, I get "The folder .... is not accessible."

If I do a File/Edit, I only have the option to edit with MS Word, and that
is not granting me access to the actual web server; I am only able to edit a
local copy of that web page.

Jeff Teel

If you have FrontPage installed you should be able to edit with it as well
using the edit button in Internet Explorer. To the right of the edit button
in IE there should be a small arrow pointing down. Click on it (not the Word
icon) and see if FrontPage is listed as an available application for editing
web pages.

Regardless, I still cannot publish to the site.

If you don't mind post the problem web address here. I'd like to take a look
at it.

Since you have FP 2003 if you can open the site in FP you can reverse publish
- your local site would be the online one you open in FP and the remote site would be your PC based one

I cannot open the web site either. I get the error: "The folder .... isn't

Then you have a local firewall or proxy setting blocking you,
or your system admin is blocking all but internal (from w/i your LAN) authentication connections
