Cannot Reactivate Office after hardware changes, have cd!!

R

Ryan

I replaced my hard drive with two new ones and used a restore utility to copy
the old hard drive onto the new one (windows & everything). Since then I had
to reactivate Office because of a "significant hardware change" just like
Windows XP, however Office opens Windows Installer when trying to activate
and says

"The feature you are tying to use is on a network resource that is not
available."

Its looking for the package "511974.MAINSP3ff.msp". I have searched for
this, and told it to look into the Office CD and it doesn't work. I need
this fixed ASAP, I cannot use Word, Excel, or anything which is a disaster as
these are essential business programs I need!

Hi Ryan,

The .MSP files are Patch files that are in a Windows folder and linked to the apps via the registry settings. Generally, Office
can't be copied, but needs to be reinstalled. In this case you may find it useful to (a) backup your files then (b) use the MS
Installer Cleanup Utility
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/295823/en-us?FR=1
to remove the MS Office entries from the registry, (c) restart the PC then (d) reinstall Office to the same location it was in.
