Cannot reinstall Office v.X

Ok, this will probably show what a novice I truely am, but here it
goes. I have a G3 ibook on which I had been happily using Office v.X
I just had to have my hard drive replaced and, not suprisingly, the
Office program was gone. I've been trying to reinstall it and have not
had much success. Everything seems to go smoothly until I try to open
Word (the only one I've tried so far) When I try to open it all I get
is that blasted spiral. I uninstalled it and sent it to the trash,
emptied the trash, and tried to reinstall yet again. No luck...just
that darned beachball. Anyone got any ideas? Any help would be
appreciated.

Repairing permissions before and after installing big programs is always a
good idea.

Do the other programs open? If nothing opens, that's a different set of
troubleshooting tips than if only Word is acting up.
