Cannot reinstall Office

Nathan

When I try to run the MS Office setup program, to repair my
current installation of Office, I get an error message
saying that "This patch package could not be opened," as
described in the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article <a
href="http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q295823">295823</a>

Unfortunately, the version of msi.dll I have installed on
my computer is newer than 2.0, so I cannot use the fix in
the knowledge base article. Does anyone know how I can fix
Office sort of completely reinstalling Windows XP, which I
obviously do not want to do.

I am running XP Home Edition SP-1 with all the patches up
to date and Office 2002 SP-2.

Thank-you, that worked.

find and rename patches in the registry, only renamed the
keys.
1. go to start and run and type regedit and click ok.
2. on the left scroll to the top and click on mycomputer.
3. go to edit and find, type patches and make sure
only "keys" and "match whole string only" are checked.
4. hit find next.
5. when a patches key (folder) becomes highlighted on
the left right click on it and click rename and call it
oldpatches then hit f3 and continue until the search
finishes.
6. Try the install again. repair
which
.
