Cannot repair or uninstall Office 2000 CD1

i am trying to repair or uninstall Office 2000 CD1 and
keep geting the message
"This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the
patch package exists and that you can access it, or
contact the application vendor to verify that this is a
valid Windows installer patch package."

i tried
"http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;295823"
but it doesn't help.

which string should i edit/erase in regedit ? or which
file in the system ? or what else can i do ?
