Cannot run a macro

When using an Excel document pusblished on a government website, I get the
following error message

"Cannot run the macro
"FIDO_super_calculator_from_July_2007(v7).xls'!CheckBox_CareerBreak_Click'.
The macro may not be available in this workbook or all macros may be
disabled."

I've enabled the Developer tab and looked in the settings under Macro
Security, but I can't see how to get Excel to give me the option of
permitting macros on an individual basis - there are three options that
disable them (and all of those generate the error message described), or one
option that enables all macros, which is regarded as a security risk.

Am I missing some additional setup options ?

I assume that the file mentioned in the error, the
FIDO_super_calculator...xls! is not available to you, and isn't the name of
the workbook you've opened. There's not much you can do about this, and I
suspect if they made that error once, they probably made it more times within
the workbook you have.

Your options would seem to be:
#1 - get a copy of that FIDO_super_calculator_from_July_2007(v7).xls
workbook to put on your system so that the macro is available.
#2 - disable all macros and do without
#3 - leave macros enabled and be prepared to deal with failures as you
discover them throughout the rest of the book
#4 - almost like #3: find something such as the CheckBox that's causing this
problem and remove the reference to the macro from it (right-click, assign
macro and clear the entry pointing to the non-existing macro).

Not your fault or your system's setup's fault: fault lies with whoever put
things together at the gov't website. They are far from perfect, many being
just tossed togethere by someone probably no more familiar with Excel than
you may be. Interesting anecdote (well, maybe not, but...) : the one and
only virus I am aware of that I was ever infected with was a Word macro virus
that came to me (via my boss) in a Word document that he downloaded from a
U.S. Gov't site and asked me to review and comment on!
