Cannot save changes made to the columns of a project

Dennis Palmiero

Hi
We're on Win2k3, PS2k3 w/SP1, using PP2k3 also w/SP1. Project Server is not
saving any changes made to the size of columns in a published project. WHen
the project is opened after the save the columns are resized back to the
original size. I'm sure it's just a configuration box in the template we used
or the Enterprise Global. I looked everywhere I can think of.

When I open a local project (one of the samples) I have no problem resizing
and saving any changes. The changes are presented properly the next time the
project is opened. Any ideas?

Thank you for the direction. I'll investigate and report what the outcome is.

Several potential causes:

1. Your users are attempting to resize columns in the Enterprise Gantt
Chart view. Users are not allowed to modify an enterprise view, of which
the Enterprise Gantt Chart is the leading example. If this is the case, the
users should apply a local view, such as the Gantt Chart view, and then will
be able to modify the column widths.

2. Your Project Server administrator has added all of the default local
Views to the Enterprise Global, which would prevent users from modifying ANY
view, because he/she has made all of them enterprise views. If this is the
case, he/she should immediately remove all of the default local views from
the Enterprise Global, as only enterprise views belong in the Enterprise
Global. To do so, open the Enterprise Global file for editing, then click
Tools - Organizer.

Let us know if either of the above explain your users' situation.

I want to give credit where credit is due and thank all that helped with this
issue, FaisalM and Dave Howard. I especialy want to thank Dale Howard who
went above and beyond to assist me with the problem and bring it to it's
resolution. I'll paste Dales reply below, (I had a problem posting replys in
the newsgroup last week so Dale was kind enough to send me the response via
email), which did the job and fixed the problem. The client was so happy they
actually gave me a gift certificate for a local liquor store. Dale, I owe you
one (maybe even a few). Here's Dales reply.

Because of your posting problems, I will make an exception and answer an
e-mail. Yes, you need to delete any non-enterprise Views from the right side
of the Organizer, as shown in your screenshot (my note: I sent Dale a screen
shot of the Enterprise Global Organizer View tab). This includes the Gantt
Chart, Project Guide: Simple Resource Sheet, and Task Usage views. You
should NOT delete the Enterprise Gantt Chart view, however, as this is a true
enterprise View.

In addition, you should click the Tables tab and delete any non-enterprise
task Tables as well. You will probably see the Entry table listed on the
right and perhaps some others as well. Do not delete the Enterprise Entry
table as it is a true enterprise Table. Also, remember to click the
Resources option in the uppper left corner of the dialog to view the Resource
tables as well. There are no default enterprise Resource tables, so you
should delete anything you see on the right that isn't a custom enterprise
resource Table you have personally created. Hope this helps.

It helped, and fixed the problem.

Again thanks to everyone that helped.

Since I don't drink (alcohol, anyway), you'll need to buy me a 12-pack of
Wild Cherry Pepsi with that gift certificate! HA! :)
