Cannot save my document !!!

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I have done a lot of editing.

When I TRY TO SAVE, I GET MESSAge "Disk is full, delete some files..". My disk has gigabytes to spare.
I also get message that "Save Autorecover Info is delayed".
I've tried saving to other disks with plenty of space but always get same message.

I saw a suggestion that I run Disk Utility to repair permissions then Restart but I cannot do that since my document is not saved!
I had the Save Autorecover Info every 10 mins on (obviously) but it never informed me that it was failing until I tried to save.

Hi Peter;

The first thing I'd try is to use File> Save As to see if I could create a
new copy in a different location within my User Account or in a new folder
on the Desktop. If that can't be done you may be able to select all, copy,
then paste into a Text Edit [or Pages if you have it] document & save that.

Keep in mind that although you obviously can't restart without losing your
work you *can* repair permissions without closing the file or quitting Word.

As for AutoRecover, it doesn't kick in until the file is saved for the first
time during any given session. It then begins to gather the changes made
since the last save. In fact, if you are in the habit of saving your work
more frequently than every 10 minutes [or whatever interval the feature is
set to] AutoRecover never really does much of anything :) It's still a
worthy feature but perhaps one of the most misunderstood.

There is one thing that might be involved: the OSX Time Machine does automatic backups so could affect creation of new files.
