Cannot save Outlook 2002 appointment reminder

When I create an appointment with a reminder and try to save it, I receive
the error message "The reminder for ... will not appear because the item is
not in your Calendar or Tasks folder. Is this O.K.?"

Consequently, I'm unable to receive reminders for my appointments. Does
anyone have a solution for this?
