Cannot schedule tasks beyond certain date

K

Ken

I have a project that is configured to schedule from the start date. I have
no constraints in the schedule beyond ASAP or ALAP yet I cannot get it to
schedule anything beyond 8/14/09. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Ken

Hi Ken,

What precisely do you mean by "get it to schedule anything beyond"?
If you link tasks they don't move after that date?

Please let us know what version of Project you are using? Have you
modified the project calendar. What dates do the tasks get
scheduled for?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

I'm using 2003 Pro. The date it wouldn't go beyond is 8/14/09. What I have
are a few tasks that I've given a deadline of 8/31/09. I've changed those
tasks to ALAP which should move the finish date to that deadline (they have
no predecessor or successor tasks) but they all will only go to 8/14. Just
checked the calendar and there is nothing odd there.

Hi Ken,

Are they the latest tasks in the project? If you go to Project >
Project Information, what is your end date? Have you added the
deadline of 8/31/09 on those tasks ? If the deadline is set and the
constraint is ALAP, they should be scheduled to finish on the
deadline date.

Julie....no, not the latest. End date in project information shows 8/14. I
have added the 8/31 deadline with the constraint of ALAP and it will not go
beyond 8/14.....very frustrating.

To make matter worse....I started rebuilding the schedule and it does the
same thing....this time stopping at 8/11!!

Since your project calculates from the Start Date, it apears that it is doing
exactly what it should be. That is, it calculates the soonest completion.
Setting a deadline farther out does not extent the project finish date to the
deadline date - thus, a constraint of ALAP does NOT cause the last task to
move farther right.

Reco: Put a dummy milestone out at 8/31 which will move the Project Finish
date out. Then your last task (with the ALAP constraint) will "fly" to the
right up against 8/31.

Hope this helps.

Hi Ken,

With an ALAP constraint, but no deadline of 8/31/09 on the specific
task, it will tag onto the latest task (currently 8/14). Set
deadlines (Project > Task Information, Advanced tab) of 8/31 and the
tasks should move.
