Cannot see text boxes in normal/print layout view

I have large document (400 pages) that I am trying to work with. The content
of the document is in text boxes. When I do a "Print Preview" I can see all
of the text in the text boxes, but when I'm looking at the document itself in
any of the normal editing views (Print Layout, Normal, etc.) the pages are
entirely blank except for the headers and footers.

I opened the same file in Word on my Mac and it looks fine. This only
happens on my Windows (XP) machine.

Can anyone help with this?

I solved this problem using the following information, which I found here:
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/drwgrphcs/InvisibleGraphics.htm

If you are in Page Layout view and “Picture placeholders†is checked, you
will not see inline graphics. Furthermore, if “Drawings†is not checked on
the View tab, you will not see floating objects either. Note that for this
purpose “Drawings†means anything in the drawing layer – AutoShapes, WordArt,
text boxes, and floating graphics.
