Cannot Select Text with Mouse in Word 2007

Microsoft Updater restarted my computer while Word was open. I had a document
open I was trying to post in my mom's blog for her. After the computer
restarted, this file was frozen, so I deleted it. I tried opening other files
and it would not let me select any text or input the cursor with the mouse. I
could move with the arrows. I had this problem once last year when the
computer restarted while Word was open, but I cannot recall how I fixed it. I
think I had to uninstall Office and reinstall it. I'm trying to avoid this
this time.

I also tried troubleshooting the ad-ins...but I cannot even select the
add-in's menu from the Word Options menu because it won't let me select it
due to this strange glitch.

I don't have much time to dedicate to this with a 15-month old at home!
