Cannot send attachments above 500K

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Email Client: pop

I am unable to send attachments to E-Mails above approx 500K. I have had no problems previously and this has only just started to happen.

Sending normal text only e-mails are fine and also if I send an attachment of less than 500k then it is OK. I can receive E-Mail no problem at all.

Please Help me with some ideas

Many thnaks

That's usually a limitation on the SMTP server.
Maybe your ISP changed the settings there,

I had the same problem and after a lot of research think I have the solution.
There is a setting called MTU which on my macbook pro running Mac OS X that
controls the maximum transmission unit (largest size packet to be sent in a
frame). my MAC is set to automatic but some older routes are probably set
1492 (a standard number used by ISPs)

I solved my problem of not being able to send large attachments by changing
the MTU number and it's easy> On Mac go to System preference>Network, then
select ethernet from the left side bar. Now press the <advanced> button, and
on the next pop-up select the Ethernet tab.
Finally, change configure: from Automatic to Manually, then change MTU from
Stantard to Custom, then enter 1492.

I've been able to send large attachments ever since with no problems. FYI,
I also changed my Airport settings as well by selecting Airport on the left
side bar and following the same steps.

I hope this helps
