Cannot send, but can receive emails

My isp, att/sbc, had me update my pop, smtp, and ports in order to take
advantage of some kind of security. Now I cannot send emails, but am able to
receive them. Here is the message I receive:

Task '(e-mail address removed) - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC0F) : 'The
connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact
your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Is there a way to correct this? Thanks.

You really need to contact your isp or look at their help pages on using
their smtp server. I suspect you have not set up the Authentication
correctly in Outlook.

Or failing that, get a gmail account and use their smtp server - for which I
know there are excellent help pages
