Hi
I cannot send e-mail messages, get error message -3259. I contacted my ISP and they cannot find anything wrong. I did a new account and that did not help either. It has worked perfect for almost 2 years and now out of a sudden it just wont do it.
Hope that you can give me some ideas of what can be wrong and what I should do.
Thanks

What verion of Office 2004 do you have installed. The most recent is 11.5.1.

Exactly how did you create the new account. Delete the entire account or
just the info?

Have you created a new User in System Preferences and opened Entourage in a
new Identity, entered account info and tested?
and that did not help
either. It has worked perfect for almost 2 years and now out of a sudden it

The info we have on this error doesn't seem to apply.

1. If you can receive but not send then you have a bad SMTP configuration
2. If you can send but not receive you have a bad POP or IMAP configuration

You can try re-entering info.
You can delete account and create a new one.
Using copy/paste can result in an extra space being added. Type carefully.
Check your Keychain for corruption.

Hi Diane --

A follow-up to the above post. I've been seeing this problem a lot since it happened to me -- lots of folks are having the same frustrating problem.

This started with the last autoupdate I did a couple weeks ago.

The version that shows now in Entourage is 11.4.0. I downloaded 11.5.1 and ran it, but the version on Entourage didn't change. I realize that it might not and that the version change is global for Office 2004.

I did all the fixits you mentioned (deleting the account and creating a new one, creating a new user on my Mac, etc) as well as some I've picked up elsewhere (changing the outgoing port from 25 to 587), all with no help.

So, that leaves me in the same situation I was in when I started this troubleshooting.

Currently, I have an email provider (webeddy.com), an ISP (Comcast), and I filter the emails thru gmail. I'm receiving emails fine when people send it to my alias ( dave (at) daveelvin (dot ) com), but my outgoing mail gets stuck when the status bar at the bottom of the screen says, "connecting securely to mail (dot) daveelvin (dot) com".

In the outgoing settings, I have 'SMTP service requires SSL' checked, 'SMTP server requires authent' checked, and the correct ID and pass for the sending account.

Entourage is automatically unchecking the 'Override default SMTP port' box. Comcast recommends overriding port 587 vs. the default 25. Neither one make a difference.

Any ideas?

Many thanks for your time.

Dave

Thanks, JR. Yep, that narrows the problem down to what I think is the common denominator. My SMTP server is, I think, webeddy.com -- they host my email addresses and website. But I'm not clear here -- does that automatically mean they are my SMTP server as well?

Thanks,
Dave

My emails comes thru gmail, so that's my incoming POP server, and go out thru webeddy. So they're not the same...but it's worked fine just like that since I set it up this way.

So you'll need to make sure Entourage is set up correctly for the
webeddy.com SMTP server.

Try smtp.comcast.net
For advanced sending:
Override: type in 587

ˆ SMTP requires authentication
You might need to ˆ Use same as receiving

Why don't you use the comcast emails? I use comcast as well as Gmail and
some pair.com accounts.
