I am attempting to use gmail as the primary account with Entourage. Yahoo is a secondary account. When I try to send out an email I get two error codes: "[SYS/PERM] pop not allowed for user" and also "An unknown error ( -50) occurred".

Can you tell me what is causing the problem and how to fix it? ANy help would be appreciated. Thank you!

When SMTP server are you using and which account is generating this

My server is gmail and was selected as the default account. When I attempt to go online with Entourage I notice the status message with the progress bar in the lower right corner says "connecting to pop.mail.yahoo.com". Also, I get an "authorization failed (#5.7.0) in addition to the previously mentioned error codes. I seem to receive messages but cannot send emails out. Any ideas?

Did you actually select POP in Gmail settings?

See the options here for -50: ( I don't believe you need the first part to
reinstall)

Check the example here if you are using a POP account to download your Gmail
account. If IMAP, see these links:

What I need to know is the outgoing *SMTP* server. This is found in
your Account setup under Sending Mail.

Also click the "advanced sending options" button and make sure you are
using the correct settings. It sounds like you are not.

The outgoing server is (e-mail address removed). In the advanced settings all the boxes are checked and using port 587. Also using same settings as receiving mail server.

I just noticed the @ in the address without the .mail. Could that be the problem?

You need to use smtp.gmail.com. You do not use the @ sign in SMTP.

You also might try 465 for the port if fixing the above problem does not fix
the issue.

Thanks Diane. It helped. That was definitely part of the problem! I tried the 465 port but can still not send out mail. Now I get this error message:

Cannot send mail. The SMTP server does not recognize any of the authentication methods supported by Entourage. Try changing the SMTP authentication options in Account settings or contact your network administrator.

Hi Diane:

A big thank you, thank you and thank you!

"The SMPT server requires authentication" box was not checked. Duh.

Now if I can just get my Yahoo to also work in Entourage and eliminate all the non-relevant MS forum messages that are now popping up in my emails . . . . I'll be doing great!

If you use a newsreader rather than the Mactopia interface to this newsgroup
you can download old messages and search for answers. If you are not
familiar with a newsreader, Entourage's basic newsreader already has the
Microsoft News server included. All you do is subscribe to the newsgroups
you want. See this article for help subscribing using the Entourage
newsreader:

What exactly is the problem with Yahoo? There are several examples for Yahoo
accounts on this page. Seems lots of ISPs use Yahoo.
