Cannot send messages after importing contacts

After setting up outlook I could rec mails - I did not send so I do not
know if the problem was there then. In trying to import my Contact list from
my old PC I had some problems -- but was eventually successful. But I now
have 3 sets of entries of "personal folders". In addition I do not seem able
to send a message - though I can rec messages.

How can I remove the extra sets of "personal folders" – they all appear to
be exact dups of each other. On a previous occasion trying to remove one I
removed them all!!

Also why can I not send messages?? Using “test Acct settings†in e-mail act
setup, there are no errors in processing. Also I can send a mail to myself.

You seem to have two unrelated issues, one of which you caused on your own.
The method you used to recover your old items was incorrect and resulted in
a corrupt mail profile. Create a new one in Control Panel's Mail applet
(Show Profile>New). Point the new profile at your existing PST with the
Data File button.

Also why can I not send messages?? Using “test Acct settings†in
e-mail act setup, there are no errors in processing. Also I can send
a mail to myself.

There's a chance that correcting the mail profile corruption will resolve
the sending/receiving issue as well, but let's deal with one problem at a
time.

I have tried to follow your advice.
I renamed outlook.pst to et-outlook.pst
I created a new profile Outlook1 using Control Panel->Mail
Icon->Profiles->New.
which created a new outlook.pst
as part of the process I created a new mail acct.
Unfortunately I still have the same problem.

If you suggest re-loading Office 2003 -- how do I get the mails +contacts
back from et-outlook.pst without re-applying the corruption??

"Same problem"? You listed at least two in your original message (can't
send was one and multiple entries in the Folder List was another). To which
are you referring?

I don't suggest reloading. In Outlook, click File>Open>Outlook Data File
and browse to the et-outlook.pst file or to your very first original PST (if
it's different), select it, and click OK. It will now show in the folder
list along with the new one that apparently was created when you created the
new mail profile. The new one will be Outlook Today, since it's your
delivery location. Click Tools>E-mail Accounts>Next and at the bottom, in
the "Delivery new e-mail to the following location" drop-down, select the
ex-outlook.pst file you just added. Click Finish, stop, and restart
Outlook. You'll still have two folder sets, only Outlook Today will now
point to the old one instead of the new one, which will probably be labeled
"Personal Folders" and will be below the Outlook Today set. If there are
any items in that set you wish to keep, drag that data to the corresponding
Outlook Today folder. When you've moved everything you want, right-click
"Personal Folders" and choose Close. It should now disappear from the
folder list and you will be back to only one set of folders.

Once that's done, if you still have sending problems, write back.
