Cannot Send or Receive (related to March 14 updates?)

POP3 Accounts (Verizon)

This problem has happened on two PCs now. After installing the March 14
updates, Outlook cannot send/receive email (can't connect to servers). I can
connect via WebMail and Outlook Express and they work fine.

I have a feeling something is happening related to these March 14 updates.

I tried ping incoming.verizon.net and it didn't work (request timed out).

One machine had Norton Internet Security. The other Trend Micro's PC-Cillin
Internet Security.

I need help please! Any ideas where to start looking?

Well, I found the fix to at least one of the PCs - the one with Trend Micro
PC-Cillin (TMPCC).

I was checking and noticed that TMPCC also had an update today (3/25). This
also gave me a hint to check the TMPCC firewall. Sure enough, there were 4
entries all the same stating deny outgoing TCP traffic on any port on
Outlook.exe. How these got there who knows. Removing them allowed me to
send/receive again.
