cannot send/ receive emails

when I attempt to send or receive emails it get an error message
must issue a STARTTLS command first. it was working fine till the other day

Is your IMAP service provider now requiring SSL? Try enabling SSL for
your account by going to Tools --> Accounts... and double-clicking your
account. You can enable SSL for both your sending and receiving servers.
You may also need to enable authentication for your outgoing mail as well.
