Cannot send word 2003 documents via MS outlook - shows corrupted

The files are viewable in the computer that they were created in, but when
you attach them to MS outlook (not express) email, they show an error that
the files are corrupted or need to be recovered. We've tried deleting
normal.dot files, per someones suggestion - nothing. This is affecting my
husbands business as he cannot send his reports to his clients. Anyone have
any ideas?
