Cannot set margins below 5.08mm

Hi,

Thanks to anyone who can help.

I am using Access 2007 and seem to have a problem whereby if I attempt to
set margins below 5.08mm Access behaves as if it has accepted this but if you
go back to query the margins they are not altered. Setting the margins above
5.08 seems to work OK.

That behavior is standard and it means that the printer
requires a margin of at least 5.08 mm.

Thanks for the reply Marshall - bummer! Though I cannot see any settings on
my printer that would prohibit printing closer to the edge of the page. Looks
like I'll have to go landscape but I was hoping not to have to redesign my
report.

Tat kind of information is usually(?) found in the fine
print in the printer's manual (specifications?). Using
Access to set the margins to all zeros is a quick and easy
way to find these numbers.

Be very careful when trying to push a report to the margin
limits, different users may have different printers with
different margin limits and not be able to print the report.
IME, these limits can vary all over the place from near zero
to almost 2cm so it's best to design all reports for the
worst case.

Whatever margins you choose for your reports, you still need
to be careful when purchasing new printers to make sure all
four of their minimum margins meet your needs. If you are
not in control of printer purchasing, make sure you
communicate this in no uncertain terms to whoever does do
the purchasing. Otherwise you will be back redisigning your
reports when they purchase a new, cheap(?) printer.

Thanks once again for the advice Marshall. This all came about because I
changed my (cheap) inkjet printer for an (expensive) colour laserjet and
Access started telling me that the report width exceeded the page width.

It would have been nice if Access had told me why it wouldn't let me set the
margins that low rather than act as if the change had been implemented and
then 'invisibly' set the margins back to 5.08mm.

As I said, check these specs before buying a new printer.
It may be a more important consideration than price or ??

I agree it should at least beep or something when
unacceptable margins are entered. OTOH, learning to live
with it only takes a single experience like your's ;-)
