Cannot set paper size to A4

Access 2003

I've tried changing paper size to A4 in File, Page Setup. I accept the
change and go straight back into File, Page Setup only to find that
papersize has reverted to Letter.

I have checked the printer properties in Control Panel and the default size
is A4.

Am I missing something simple?
