Cannot setup Outlook if "Hide from Address List" is checked?

I have a few mailboxes of employees who are no longer with the company... In
AD I set them to be hidden from the global address list.

I want to go into their mailbox and archive their mail, but when setting up
outlook this isn't possible since it cannot find their name in the GAL.

Is there any way other than having them appear in the list again to go about
doing this?

how do you connect to the "hidden" user's mailbox?
you should be able to create an outlook profile to access the mailbox even
if it's hidden from the GAL. Configure it manually without using the "check
names" function.

I tried this and it doesn't work.... I am logged in as the user, open Outlook
for the first time and go through the wizard...

I enter the full servername and mailbox name of the user.

I am prompted with the following message:

"The name could not be matched to a name in the address list."
