Cannot start Excel automatically

When I double-click an xls file, Excel is started but the file is not
displayed.

I need to use File/Open in Excel to open that file. I have Excel 2003. It
only happens to my Excel and not other Office software. I have already tried
to reinstall it and it's still the same.

What's wrong?

This may happen if you have installed 2 versions of office on your computer.
