Cannot start microsoft outlook message

Full message when trying to open outlook:
"Cannot start microsoft outlook. the command line argument is not valid,
verify the switch you are using"

I have tried to open outlook in safe mode but the message above comes up.

outlook.exe /safe (note space) - you may have to use the full path eg
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Outlook.exe " /switch
