I am running a 1.3 GHz Gateway computer with about 25GB
of hard disc available and 256MB of RAM. The operating
system is WindowsXP Home Edition. I have been using
Microsoft Word 2000 SR-1 with Microsoft Works 6.0 just
about daily for many months. Last week, Word refused to
load and gave me the following message: "Microsoft Word
for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were
in the middle of something, the information you were
working on might be lost. for more information, click
here." When I "click here", I get the following
message: "ERROR SIGNATURE AppName: winword.EXE
AppVer: 9.0.0.3822 ModName: vbe6.dll
ModVer: 6.0.87.14 Offset: 000d6d0b To view
technical information about error report: click here."
When I "click here" this time, I get pages and pages of
System information, Exception information and Module
information.
I have run System Restore several times at several
dates. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Word and Works
from the disc that came with the computer, several
times. And I have run the installation repair routine
that was also on the installation disc. I have started
Word using RUN: winword.exe /a, which runs without
templates. I located two normal.dot files and deleted
them. I am still getting the same error message and got
it at every one of the steps I have described. The same
thing happens if I try to open a file that requires
Word. When Word tries to open, I get the same message.
I cannot think of anything that I did out of the ordinary
that might have caused this problem. Any ideas??
