Cannot transmit outgoing email in Outlook 2003

I'm sure many people have experienced this problem, but I cannot seem
to fix it. I am trying to set up my Gmail account to work with Outlook
2003.

The incoming email works fine. The outgoing email doesn't work. I
contacted my ISP (Comcast) who advised me to use their SMTP server
(smtp.comcast.net) and to change the ports to 995 (incoming) and 587
(outgoing).

Okay. I did that. Now I get this error when trying to send emails on
my Gmail account.

"find outgoing mail server (SMTP): Unable to connect to the outgoing
mail server (SMTP). Please verify the server name in the outgoing mail
server field. If that information is correct, close this dialog, click
More Settings and verify the port and SSL information on the Advanced
Tab"

Okay...is it a port problem, a login to the SMTP problem, or what???
Thanks.

P.S. My Comcast.net email account works fine.
