cannot type a single letter in the document,locked

When I start the Word I get the display correctly with tool bar. But when I
start to type any document, the letter do not get printed. A message appears
at the bottom of the screen "Document is locked". I am not able to type a
single letter in the document. Please help me to resolve this problem.
Note: I can type and send email. I can type in the Word Processor. But I
cannot utilize Office Word 2003.

There are a variety of reasons it might happen, including lack of program
activation (have you activated? choose Help - Activate Product).

Is this a trial version for which the trial period has expired? If not, have
you activated Word? Help > Activate Application
