I am also having the same problem. I am trying to update my Office 2003. It
gives me no error messages. The download is successful then all windows just
close about half way through the installation. I have tried all the
reccommended fixes from MS and I'm perplexed. I've never had problems with
this before and my Windows update and other downloads are fine. The
applications work fine also. The only connection I can make to a change in my
system was a recent critical Windows update download.

Here is how to Update Office...
According to my experience, this issue is most likely caused by some of the
registry keys for Office corrupted or missing. To resolve the issue, we need
to manually delete all the registry keys for Office.

Before you perform the following steps, please refer to the following
Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) articles to learn more about backing up the
Outlook data and Office program settings.

Thanks Gordon,

I really didn't want to go through all that so I decided to try going
another way and it worked. However, from the obvious number of posts about
this issue I believe there is some new problem with office updates in
general. I went straight to the downloads and by passed the check for office
updates via the application or the office site and downloaded each
individually and it worked fine. I then went back and tried the check for
office updates and it eventually shut IE down with no notification.
