Cannot update Office XP on Microsofts Office Update site.

Microsofts update site will not update the Office XP software on my computer.
When it does the scan the progress bar will go to about 51% and then hang.
After a minute or two it will error out and say that it cannot update the
software.

The first thing I tell users is to try and repair your Office product in
case it has become corrupted. In any Office product go to Help menu -> Detect
and Repair.
If that doesn't work, try searching the forums for people that have had
similar issues as yours, you'd be surprised that many of the issues people
post about have already been resolved previously. If non of this works, try
uninstalling/reinstalling Office, this may solve the problem. Please post
back your results.
