In Word 2002 and 2003, you must have the drawing canvas enabled to use
connectors. If you've disabled the drawing canvas (as I assume you have),
you can use Insert | Picture | New Drawing to get one.

Ya, I can now get the connector with the "drawing canvas". Does that mean I
can't use connector in "word picture"? I prefer "word picture" for the
reasons that it is easy to resize (when you come out) and it can
automatically resize the picture to contain the drawing. I always avoid the
canvas (may be I am old fashion). Is there any advantage (apart from the
connector) of the canvas over "word picture"?
