Cannot use object linking and embedding

All of a sudden I get this error message when I try to open a file in Excel
2007. When I click off the message, Excel tried to open the file & then
quits. I'm running Excel 2007 on Windows Vista Home Basic.

Thanks, Shane. But the situations described in those 2 publications don't
apply to my problem. I get an error message with the text in the subject line
whenever I open a file in Excel. It doesn't seem to matter whether the Excel
file is complex or very simple.

I'll watch for other suggestions on this forum.

Well, what's this "subject line" stuff, Excel 2007 doesn't have any feature
called a subject line. Are you opening this file in an email package and if
so what package.

You get the message before Excel opens the file? And "then it tries to open
the file" - I take it that means that it doesn't succeed? Then it quits -
Excel crashes or the file open process stops, or Excel freezes?

Sorry I wasn't more clear. I was referring to the subject line of this
discussion post. When I try to open an Excel file, either from within Excel,
or when Excel is not yet open & I click on an Excel file icon, the program
opens but within a second or two the following error message appears: Cannot
use object linking and embedding. Nothing further happens or can be done
until that message is clicked off. When I close that message, Excel continues
trying to open the file but fails, shutting itself down.

Maybe a good idea to do a Detect and repair. I think that is hidden below File,
Excel options, resources or something. If you can't find it, run Office setup
from control panel.
