Cannot use Office Update Tool

C

Charlie Cookz

I keep getting the same error message when I try the auto update tool
(actually I get 3 others, but they don't apply). I think this is the problem,
but there is no fix and the link MS gives does not work. Help!

Here is the message:
Windows Installer patch files (.MSP files) from previously applied Office
updates are missing from the \Windows\Installer hidden directory on your
computer. MSP files are stored on your computer after update installation
completes because they need to be referenced for future update operations. If
the files are missing you will not be able to apply Office updates. You may
also be unable to uninstall Office products as a result of the same problem.
Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for assistance.

I tried using Clean Up Utility, rebooting, then re-installing Office 2003.
Still get the error message. Wazzup?

Well, Rein, I saw your post yesterday, and this isn't your thread... I
did not suggest that you use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. If
I thought it might work for you, I would have replied to your post.
Wazzup with you?

Well, Garfield, you may have a point. However, I get the same error message
as posted by Charlie, so I figured the CleanUp Utility was the way to go.
What would you suggest?

Thanks.
