Cannot use the dictionary function

Hi There

In Word 2003 I cannot use the add to dictionary function for spell
checking etc. I have been to Tools, Options, Spelling and Grammar and
verified that it is there but every reference to it is greyed out. Does
anyone have any suggestions please.
