Cannot view images / graphics in Word 2002

I see similar, but not exact, topics on this subject and no solution
has worked.
I am using Word 2002. I open a document that others have created, not
sure in what version. These have screen shots pasted into them. As I
scroll through the document, I see references to the screen shot and
white space where the image should be.
I left-click once in the white space. The image outline appears - a
black line with the squares for adjusting the size.
I right-click within that outline and chose "Show picture toolbar"
The entire screen shot image appears.
Every time I switch to another program and switch back to Word, the
image has reverted to the outline. I r/c and choose "Hide picture
toolbar", and the image appears.
There is something about engaging the picture toolbar that enables the
image to appear. Even if I have Picture toolbar always selected, the
image will NOT appear until I r/c and either select or hide the
toolbar.
Any suggestions for resolving this?

Hi Suzanne,

I had tweaked all of those and I continue to have the problem. I engage
the picture toolbar and bring the object to the front, so that it is
visible. If I scroll through the document and come back to the object,
it is invisible again. I have to engage the picture toolbar and then it
is visible again. If you have any other ideas I'd be most grateful.

Thank you.

You may want to turn down the hardware acceleration or update your video
driver, but this is a common complaint in graphics-heavy Word docs.

I turned down hardware acceleration (Control Panel | Display | Settings
| Advanced | Troubleshoot ). I moved from FULL on the right to the 2nd
setting from the left. The 3rd from left seemed to work OK too. Thank
you.

I've been having the same problem with Word 2002 - turning down
hardware acceleration did the trick!
Thanks so much!
