Cannot view tasks

Q

Quidam

Recently deployed PS2003 and cannot view tasks after selecting the project in
Proj Center. We have validated the MDAC versions, OWC is installed, all Svc
packs and patches have been checked. Another item that may help identify our
issue is the cube manual rebuild keeps failing. I even built a new project
view and to no avail. All responses are appreciated and valued as I am
grasping at straws.

Tell us what happens when you click on the project hyperlink in Project Center.

Sorry for not being more specific. When you click on a project (link) in
Project Center it takes you to where you would normally see the list of tasks
that are enumerated in the project plan. However we get you get the error
"There is no iformation to display in this view" Either the project manager
has not published the project plan or there is no information in the project
plan to display". I have reviewed the installation and cofiguration guides
and the only thing I can assume is the cube is not being built. I am not the
Server administrator so I cannot paste the event log information but when I
try to run the OLAP cube build, it fails (based on the status message just
above the "build" box: "CUrrent CUbe Status"..."The cube scheduled to be
built on 1/16/2006 at 2:37 PM failed."

Although the project views and the OLAP cube are two separate issues, the
cause of the problems could be related, or simply coincidental. What we need
to know next are the corresponding errors you're seeing in the server
application event log. The most common causes I've seen that could lead to
both of these failures are ViewDrop folder permissions or the use of
non-alpha/numeric characters in Project names. Report back and we'll keep
trying.

The OLAP cube is not a factor in this problem, but there is clearly something
wrong with it. Did it ever build correctly?

See if there is another view to choose from in the Choose A View drop-down
box near the upper right corner of the screen of the project detail view. It
is possible that the view that is selected is filtering out all the tasks in
the plan.

Also, you should ensure that you have permission to see the details of the
projects that you cannot presently see.

When I get into the office this morning I will have the sysadmin get the
contents of the logs and I will post some of what I find. I have looked at
several issues that are siad to be causing the issues (e.g. ViewDrop
permissions, naming conventions, DSO installation, etc.). I have changed
views, checked permissions, and created a new view.

It turns out that somewhere along the way the database was created but no
cube has been created. When I review the setup in Analysis Services, there
isn't a cube nor is there an assigned data source. When I look at the
development server setup, there are several in both places, so I am a little
confused about what I need to do. Is there a setup procedure (for Non-dba
types) that I might follow. I trust in the expertise of a lot of people that
use this discussion group, but don't want to be a hinderance either. THank
you very, very much. QAFB

Refer to the installation guide for instructions on setting up the OLAP
services for Project Server. We wouldn't want to rewrite that here. As
specific questions as they come up.

Gary, thanks for all your help here. IT turns out that we needed to apply SQL
Service Pack 3a (SP3a) for Analysis Services on the Project Server box in
order for it to function as designed. Thanks again for your help. -QAFB
