When you open your document is there an entry "Organization Chart" on
the menu?
Does this also happen when you select menu File -> New -> Organization
Chart"?

You need a Word discussion group, this one is for Visio.

I think he's asking a Visio question, and you had it right with your 1st
response. For the feature he's trying to use, he must have started with an
org chart setup. Cannot start with a new, vanilla drawing, and then open an
org chart stencil; the auto connect by dropping a subordinate onto a superior
won't work and you get that warning message.

Yeah, I know, this message was a response to front24222's question
about Word picture formatting.

Yes~~
When I open a ready-made visio file,I dont find "Organization Chart" on the
menu .
So if I want to use this feature , I must creat a new file by use "
file-->new-->organization".
Is that right ?

W

WapperDude

Correct. The org chart features and capabilities are tightly integrated. If
you desire to use all of the functionality, then you need to begin in "the
org chart mode" as it were.

Hello ppp,

I wonder if you've created the drawing from the Org Chart stencil rather
than being based on the template?

ie did you use:

File / Shapes / Business / Organization Chart / Organization Chart Shapes?

or

File / New / Business / Organization Chart (Wizard)?

The first option only opens a single Org Chart stencil, but the second
option creates a drawing based on the Org Chart template and this includes a
number things:

a) a set of associated stencils

b) a drawing page itself

c) some embedded 'persistent events' that call the Org Chart addon

(The persistent events differ depending on whether you're using the normal
or Wizard based templates, but it amounts to something very similar, ie the
menu and code that Paul and WapperDude are refering to get loaded and the
document becomes 'live'.)

If you create a new drawing based on the second method above, you should be
able to copy and paste your 'non-working' shapes across to your new document
and they should spring to life!

Hope that helps.

Best regards

John
