Canon iP4300 will not print word documents from cassette feeder

I used to have a Hewlett Packard Deskjet 950C which I replaced with a Canon
iP4300.

I use MS Office Word 2003, with WindowsXP Home operating system...

The printer has two paper stores - a bottom cassette and a top sheet feeder.

If I try to print Word documents made BEFORE I had the Canon, the iP4300
will ONLY print from the sheet feeder - even if printer setting is
'cassette'. If I copy and paste the contents of the document which wont print
into a new document, the iP4300 will print from the cassette every time.

I have checked ALL document and printer settings to see if there is a
difference between old docs and new ones and can't find any discrepancy.

Other programmes like Outlook, Excel and Adobe Photoshop all work fine.

I have changed the printer at Canon's suggestion because they thought it
might be faulty - but same problems.

This is VERY frustrating!!

Any suggestions as to what the solution might be??

Thanks

I had this problem with my ip4200 and MS Word Office 2003. Have you
checked the following setting in MS Word?

File menu - Page setup - paper tab - paper source. I found that this
had somehow got set to Auto Sheet feeder.

Generally I only use the cassette and If the source in the printer
driver is set to 'paper feed switch' then all other apps print just
fine, since the printer gets the paper from wherever it detects it, so
it only showed up in MS Word.

I presume the terminology will not have changed much from the ip4200 to
the 4300

There could a conflict between the paper allocation in the printer
settings and the paper size for the previously saved documents.

Thanks for this.

I had already found that if I changed the default paper seting in page setup
I could get pages to print OK.

Why this overrides the print properties settings though is a mystery!
